The (almost) arrest

After August, when the kids did not exactly appreciate my accent, October gave me a more patient audience: the Monday English conversation workshop. So someone learning Slovenian is now helping Slovenian ladies practice their English. We play games with picture cards and prompts, and the old photos from the Yugoslav era work best.

This month I also presented Serbian language and culture at a Slovenian elementary school. The lineup was a vampire, an inventor, and a spy, namely Sava Savanović, Nikola Tesla, and Duško Popov, which can be the start of a joke.

I got fined for jaywalking, probably making me the first person in Zagorje this has ever happened to. In Belgrade we just call that crossing the street. I just wanted to take a nice photo, at least I got a reason to post it on Blog. I say almost arrest because I didn’t have all the required documentation with me which is funny since I carry it everywhere all the time. Murphy’s law at its best.

Next up is a Serbian cultural evening at the youth center on November 20, and I promise to look both ways while crossing the street from now on.
