Hello my name is James McCarthy :), I come from Ireland and since the 6th of May, I have been living here in Slovenia. For the next 6 months I will volunteer in the local youth center called MC ZOS as part of my European Voluntary Service or better known as EVS. The things that I will be involved here will be mainly creating events and also some workshops with the local children. Before I came here I didn’t know what to expect, but when I got here I met everyone from MC ZOS and they made me feel like I was at home. Coming here was a huge deal for me, it meant that I would leave my home, my family and my friends but its only for 6 months so – why not!!! I chose to do EVS because I love to get involved in my own community in Ireland and then, when I got the offer to come and volunteer here in Zagorje, I knew I had to do it, I wanted to experience a different country, different people and to see how many things are different here. I really enjoy it here, the people are friendly and willing to help with whatever the problem. I have made alot of friends also and they are showing me around my new town and getting me ready for the next 6 months. There is only one tiny downfall to all of this, I am Irish and I get really bad sunburn :(.
